A Fresh Look at Leather

Runway inspiration for the new season—and one look to wear now.
The Spring/Summer 2027 runway season has me looking at leather in a different way. This edit brings together the ideas worth exploring: softer shapes, lace, strong colour and a little shine.
You do not need to recreate a whole runway outfit. Sometimes it is the colour of a bag, the shape of a jacket or the contrast between two fabrics that makes a look feel new. Here are a few ideas to take into the new season, plus one shoppable look to try now.
Leather and lace
A leather jacket and a delicate skirt make a beautiful pairing. The jacket gives the outfit shape; the lace keeps it light. A defined waist brings the two together.
The Tom Ford Spring 2027 looks add sharper tailoring to the mix. Try a cropped jacket with a longer skirt, or wear a glossy blazer with denim. For more coverage, add a simple fitted top underneath.
A softer shape
These jackets have room to move. Chocolate brown looks fresh with a green bag, while a pale draped top works with relaxed trousers. The black anorak gets a playful finish from yellow floral shoes.
The idea to borrow: pair a roomy jacket with one smaller, brighter detail. A colourful bag or shoe can do the work.

For my take, I paired a fitted chocolate jacket with a teal satin skirt and lace hem. The jacket defines the waist, while the skirt adds softness.
A snakeskin-effect bag brings in texture, gold earrings add warmth, and black-and-caramel mules pull the colours together. It is a way to wear the runway's leather-and-lace idea now.

Let colour lead
Red with burgundy. Black with a flash of yellow. A green dress that needs very little added to it. Colour changes the mood of these looks.
The pink bag against the red shirt and burgundy skirt is an easy idea to borrow. Start with related colours, then add one unexpected accent. Or try warm mustard with olive and black.
Beyond the jacket
A belted trench dress, a strapless jumpsuit and a biker-style vest offer different ways to play with shape. Notice the folded necklines, the waistlines and the wide trousers.
You can take just one part of the idea: a sleeveless top with tailored trousers, or a statement coat over a simple outfit.
Three ways with gold
Saint Laurent brings gold into Spring/Summer 2027 with real impact. These three looks show different ways to style it: with an olive-green scarf, as a belted trench, or in a utility-inspired outfit with blue shoes.
The collection mixes metallic leather with other reflective fabrics. For your own wardrobe, a gold bag or shoe is an easy place to start. One bright piece can be enough.
Mix the textures
Leopard with glossy black trim, or red with purple lace and colourful jewellery: these looks make the details part of the outfit.
Try one contrast at a time. A patterned bag with plain clothes, lace beneath a jacket, or jewellery that picks up a colour in your skirt.
